Kelly’s Inspiration - I love the mix of color and pattern in this patchwork wool rug. It could go from a bedroom to a kitchen easily. The colors are neutral but not boring. So many rugs I’ve seen at this size and at this price are quite ugly or synthetic materials. This made me happy to find a rug this beautiful at this price, plus it helps artisans in Guatemala break the chain of poverty!

The Artists - An architect & industrial designer had a vision for their country, to revive the ancient weaving techniques of their people in the hills of Guatemala, recently declared a National Cultural Heritage. With their creative inspiration, the designers brought a fresh look to the traditional process and the noisy weaving looms have begun to echo in the village walls once again.
A bit about the rug process…
Weaving in Guatemala has been declared a National Cultural Heritage. An heirloom practice for the last 300 years. Through the sale of these rugs, artisans in Guatemala have a sustainable income. The process has been preserved as well. From the sustainable wool thats harvested, washed and dried by the sun. Its carded by hand using wood and metal combs and hand spun with the antique wood spinning wheels, then it is hand-dyed. Finally it’s mounted on the traditional foot looms and woven by master weavers who are literally creating pieces of art. This takes time as you can imagine, up to 4 days just to weave a rug.
