Leather is one of the most impressive materials because of its durability, strength, and natural weathering process. At Kelly Moore Bag, we’ve chosen to build our items with the highest quality materials available on the market because we believe that goods like the many that we make should last a lifetime.
A part of that length of life is dependent on properly caring for your leather goods in the right way. The leather we’ve chosen to use is Full Grain Leather, which is both the best quality and has the best chance of weathering well. Full Grain Leather is built to withstand the elements, as well as daily use, though at first, it may feel overly structured or stiff -- but be patient, it softens over time and will wear to your purposes.
Leather like ours does best stored in a dust bag away from moisture and extreme temperatures when you’re not using it. Dry climates or direct heat can dry out the leather causing it to become brittle, so condition it accordingly. When it comes to conditioning your leather, we suggest you test your conditioner on a small area of your bag and let it air dry. (One brand we love is Chamberlain’s Leather Milk No.1, which comes with a cotton terry applicator.)
Note that conditioners or treatments can darken the color of the leather depending on the type and amount used. You should plan to condition your leather item every 8-12 weeks depending on your climate and the bag's exposure to heat and direct sunlight.
